Four members of Upton Rugby Club – Rob Heeley, Ajay Mitchell, Will Clarke & Will Cullwick lent their muscle power to help further prevent damp damaging special Victorian tiles made by the Victorian tile maker, Chamberlain at St. Mary’s Church, Ripple.
They moved several very heavy flagstones and boulders which had been causing damp away from the Church’s external wall.
The flagstones will be re-used inside St.Mary’s at a later date.
Roger Gillard, Churchwarden, said “The fellows did a great job very quickly and with good humour. They joked that it was just part of their training regime.” He added ” We are very grateful to them for what they did to help us and we wish them and Upton Rugby team success on the field of play”
